Ford Field is the downtown Detroit home of the Lions, a domed stadium built with the historic Hudson's warehouse facade incorporated into its design along one end. The enclosed bowl seats 65,000 and produces some of the loudest, most concentrated crowd noise in the NFL on big nights, sealed off entirely from Michigan's winter weather. Its brick-and-glass exterior blends into the surrounding downtown streetscape in a way few modern domes do. The building anchors Detroit's downtown sports district alongside Comerica Park and Little Caesars Arena.
The stadium opened in August 2002, giving the Lions an indoor home after decades at the Pontiac Silverdome. It hosted Super Bowl XL in February 2006, when the Steelers beat the Seahawks 21-10, and the 2009 NCAA Men's Final Four, when North Carolina beat Michigan State for the title. It is slated to host the Final Four again in 2027. Ford Field has also become a regular concert and event venue in Detroit, hosting major touring acts between football seasons.
