UBS Arena in Elmont, New York sits beside historic Belmont Park racetrack and is the home of the New York Islanders. Designed with steep, close seating on all sides and no obstructed views, it was built specifically for hockey rather than retrofitted from a multi-purpose bowl, giving it an unusually intimate atmosphere for a modern arena. Fans have nicknamed it "The Stable" for its Belmont Park location, and it's become known for one of the loudest, most concentrated fan sections in the NHL. Its Long Island Rail Road connection also made it the first major New York arena reachable by a dedicated train line.
UBS Arena opened on November 20, 2021, with the Islanders dropping their first game there 5-2 to the Calgary Flames. It gave the four-time Stanley Cup champion Islanders — winners in 1980, 1981, 1982, and 1983 at the old Nassau Coliseum — a purpose-built modern home after years of uncertainty over the franchise's arena situation. Built alongside the storied Belmont Park thoroughbred racing grounds, the project paired a new arena with a revitalized rail and retail corridor for the area. It has quickly established itself as one of the league's top venues for atmosphere and sightlines.
