Mercedes-Benz Stadium in downtown Atlanta is instantly recognizable for its eight-petal retractable roof that opens like a camera shutter, home to the Falcons and to Atlanta United, which has shattered MLS attendance records here. Texas A&M's Aggies have also taken the field for marquee season-opening showcase games in the building. The 360-degree halo videoboard and steep, close-to-the-field seating bowl were purpose-built to make it feel loud and intimate despite its size. It replaced the Georgia Dome in 2017 and instantly became one of the sport world's most-copied stadium designs.
Opened in August 2017, it hosted Super Bowl LIII in February 2019 and the College Football Playoff National Championship in January 2018. Atlanta United won the 2018 MLS Cup here in front of 73,019 fans — still the largest crowd in MLS history. A premier U.S. venue, it is set to host matches in the 2026 World Cup, part of the tournament's biggest-ever North American footprint.
