McKale Center is the home of the Arizona Wildcats basketball teams in Tucson, Arizona. It is one of college basketball's most storied and intimidating home courts, anchoring one of the sport's elite programs. The arena's steep, close-in seating bowl and sold-out crowds have made it a notoriously difficult place for visiting teams to win. Beyond basketball, it also hosts Arizona gymnastics and volleyball.
Opened in 1973 and named for former coach and athletic director J.F. 'Pop' McKale, the arena was the home floor during the Lute Olson era, including Arizona's 1997 national championship run. The Wildcats built one of the best home-court winning records in the country there, with lengthy home win streaks under Olson in the 1990s and 2000s. The building has been periodically updated with modern amenities while retaining its reputation as one of the toughest true road environments in college basketball.
