American Family Field in Milwaukee is the retractable-roof home of the Brewers, famed for Bernie Brewer's slide down his chalet in left field and the tailgate culture that fills the parking lots outside. Its fan-shaped roof, one of the largest of its kind in baseball, can close in about ten minutes, making it a reliable option regardless of Wisconsin weather. Sausage Race sprints between innings and a genuinely rowdy bleacher crowd give the ballpark a homegrown, community feel unlike the more corporate parks elsewhere in the league. The parking-lot tailgates before day games are considered among the best in the sport.
The ballpark opened in April 2001 as Miller Park, replacing County Stadium and giving the Brewers their first retractable-roof home. A roof-construction accident during the build in 1999 killed three ironworkers, a tragedy the franchise still marks with a memorial at the site. The stadium was renamed American Family Field in 2021 after a new naming-rights deal, keeping the same fan traditions intact. It has hosted NLDS and NLCS games as the Brewers built into a consistent postseason contender through the 2010s and 2020s, cementing itself as one of baseball's most fan-friendly parks.
